MUSIC BLOG: MAY FAVOURITES (2018)

Thursday, 31 May 2018

MAY has been one of the most stressful months of the year so far. So many assessments and projects lined up but I had to compile this list - at least for my sanity. It's been another good year for music and even though the playlist was slightly shorter than previous ones, it was incredibly difficult to handpick 5 songs. But I managed - and here are some tunes you NEED to check out if you haven't already!

5.  Oh River - HANNAH GRACE
If you're looking for a beautifully written song accompanied by stunning vocals than this is the song for you. This is a simple ballad but it doesn't need anything else, as Hannah's voice does the trick just fine. Stunning is all there is to say. Have a listen for yourself:

4. Diane - CAM
Most of the time I listen to music whilst I'm working away. Sometimes I don't notice what's playing as much if I'm focused on the work. Every few songs my attention is diverted away from my writing and towards Spotify to check out what this great song is. This was one of those songs. The opening harmonies are enough to hook you in. Cam might be a newer artist, but she's helped write for Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift and more. Check out this country tune - headphones recommended for an even better auditory experience.

3. Hell or High Water - PASSENGER
This is Passenger's first new song off his upcoming record. It's safe to say that his sound hasn't really changed, but it does have an almost cinematic feel around it. I am a fan of Passenger and I cannot wait for even more new music. So far, so good!

2. Love Just Ain't Enough - KARA MARNI
Kara Marni is fast becoming one of my favourite new artists. 2018 seems to be a big year for her. This song is off her 7-track EP. She's one of the few pop artists with strong vocals. Check her out below:

1. Saving Grace - GRACE CARTER
Grace Carter is close to breaking out. Saving Grace is the first ever song I heard from her and it took to my attention immediately. Not only for her sleek vocals, but the song is extremely strong. The chorus features an incredibly bass beat and the melody is unique yet catchy. Enjoy:

As always, check out some of the songs that did not make the cut:
First Burn - ARI AFSAR, JULIA HARRIMAN, LEXI LAWSON, RACHELLE ANN GO, SHOBA NARAYAN
Give Me Something - CALUM SCOTT
Better In Yellow - FERRIS & SYLVESTER
Money - ZACH SAID, KNUCKS

Until next month!

N.B. Unless you're viewing the link in May 2018, the songs will have by now changed from the ones mentioned in this post. However, the Top 5 featured above will be compiled in one playlist, marking my favourite songs of 2018.
