MUSIC BLOG: Lauren Aquilina's brilliant performance in Malta

Thursday, 31 July 2014

LAST night British singer Lauren Aquilina gave a wonderful set of performances at Ta' Qali during The Farsons Beer Festival. This is her second time performing at the famous festival and her Maltese fans have not been left disappointed.

Lauren's piano-driven music kept the crowd of 4,000 people entertained and you could clearly hear the fans singing along to the songs. It was an absolute experience singing along with the crowd and Lauren herself. When she sang her latest single "Lovers or Liars", it made me realise how far she has come within the past year. She performed this same song last year before its release and everyone listed quietly whilst this year everyone was singing along. Furthermore, Lauren was performing as an unsigned artist when this time round she performed as an artist signed to a record label. I am so proud of all these achievements and I am glad to be on this journey!

The setlist started off with "Sinners", her second single from her second EP under that same title and finished off with her hit debut single, "Fools". She performed other originals such as "King", "Talk To Me", "Ugly Truth", "Square One" and my personal favourite "Irrelevant". Lauren sang a beautiful rendition of Adele's "Someone Like You".

Some fan favourite moments have to be whenever she took either a selfie with everyone in the background or recorded the crowd singing her lyrics back to her. It was marvellous.

The highlight of the night for me however, has to be at the end of her gig when after a 5 minute break she came back out and next to the barriers and took a picture with every single fan. Despite the humidity and hot evening temperatures she stayed there and greeted all those who were waiting. It took around 45 minutes for her to see everyone.

She was nice enough to take a picture and have a chat!

For those of you who are not familiar with her, she is an absolutely down to earth girl, super grounded.

I cannot put into words how much I admire her for her dedication and respect towards her fans. Despite her sold out tours and chart topping music, Lauren remains with her feet solid on the ground.

I wish nothing but success for this talented singer, and if you're reading this, Lauren, I hope you stay grounded throughout your career, as it attracts people towards you and your music. Never forget where you come from. Lauren does a splendid job of not only giving a brilliant performance, but also showing her appreciation towards the people who support her music career, and in return, the fans show unlimited love, support and gratefulness.

Until next year, Lauren!
