2014: MY YEAR IN REVIEW

Wednesday, 31 December 2014

ANOTHER year is over and a new one has begun. 365 days have passed in the blink of an eye. I can't believe how fast 2014 has gone by. It's been my busiest year, which is probably why I feel that this year flew past. So many events and experiences that have come my way. Some wonderful and life-changing ones, and some negative ones as well. This is a reflection to the past year, also known as one of the best years of my life.

DIARY: GUILDFORD PT 2 - LOUD KNOCKING, TOURING AND WIFI SUCCESS

Friday, 26 December 2014

IT'S 6am and I've woken up already. It's my second day away from home on my own for the very first time. I've got a long and exciting day ahead with Experience Day at the Academy of Contemporary Music starting at 9:15am. Also, I've got plans to tour the area a bit further. Here we go...

CHRISTMAS, FAMILY AND UNITY

Tuesday, 23 December 2014

CHRISTMAS is probably the world's most celebrated holiday. Despite different views, there is one common denominator that dominates for the majority: unity and family. People make it a point to try and be home for Christmas with their whole family since sometimes that is the only opportunity they get to see each other. It's a beautiful thing, although unfortunately not everyone has the privilege to live within minutes of their families even if they live on either side of the country, as we have in Malta. Not everyone has the opportunity to be with their families for the holidays either, due to work commitments or such. It's a joyous time of year, but is it losing its significance?

DIARY: GUILDFORD PT 1 - PLANE, TRAIN AND FAILED ACQUAINTANCES

Wednesday, 17 December 2014

SO today I embark on a new journey as I travel abroad solo for the first time ever. So this post will be documenting my road to fulfilling my dreams. I hope to move to London some time soon to study, and this is the first step of many. I'm going with an open mind and realistic expectations; what will be will be. But until the final step, this is the start of a long and seemingly a tad bit of a lonely road. I'm hoping my friends and family could use this series of posts as a way of knowing what I've been up to, and if you're none of the mentioned, then you're more than welcome to join me.

Confidence, self-belief and support.

Wednesday, 3 December 2014

I have struggled with self-belief and lack of confidence since I was of a very young age, after some girls at school decided to meddle with it and I was far too naive to ignore it. Without these tools it's hard to move forward and improve in whichever craft or task you're doing, as you would have given up before you even attempt. So here is how I went from zero confidence and self-belief to beginning to believe in myself and feel more confident, through hard work and most importantly: support!

MUSIC BLOG: SUMMER FAVOURITES

Monday, 15 September 2014

SUMMER proved to be busy and I missed out on July favourites, so I decided to have a Summer Favourites instead where I will be sharing 13 tunes from my summer playlist that I have loved throughout July and August. Some of these songs haven't been particularly released this summer or even this past year, but I have definitely been listening to them a lot.

An intense, unforgettable week. UA2014

Wednesday, 20 August 2014

SO I have just gotten back from 7 days filled with music, music and more music! A little over a week ago I flew to London where I attended a weeklong intense music camp: Ultimate Artists. This year the masterclasses were held at the University of Westminster, where we also lived on campus. For someone coming from a tiny island, that is in itself an experience!

This post will be detailing the course and my views on the experience. If you're an aspiring artist especially, I suggest you read on. This course truly is about nourishing the artist not just in singing, songwriting and music production, but also even beyond that. It tackles the music industry and other issues relative to music artistry. Hats off to the wonderful organisers, and thank you.

The nightmare that is packing

Wednesday, 6 August 2014

LONDON is calling for me once again. I am in the middle of preparing the final touches to my packing as I am to be air-bound in less than 24 hours. I think it is agreed universally that packing is one of the downsides to going away. There is just so much planning and things to do that whether you prepare from a week before or leave it for a few hours before leaving the house, it's still frustrating. So whilst I was filling up my suitcase, I compiled some points that could be a little bit helpful.

LITTLE THINGS, BIGGER JOYS

Wednesday, 16 July 2014

I'VE read once that no one in life achieves TRUE happiness because we are so focused on trying so hard to get to a place we think we'll be happy. Sometimes I believe that it's true what they say, that the smallest of things do bring the most joy and happiness. It's almost like we try so hard sometimes to feel that true feeling of content when in reality it turns out to be something that needed barely any enforcement.

MUSIC BLOG: JUNE FAVOURITES!

Wednesday, 25 June 2014

ANOTHER month has practically gone by and therefore it is time for another post about what music I have been loving this month. Last month seemed like a good run so this time I have a mix of brand new tunes and others that have been around for a couple of months. Sometimes it just takes a while until you get into the groove of a song and end up loving it. You just have to find the correct time I guess. Anyways, this is my Top 10 list of my current favourites! More could be found on my 'June Favourites' playlist on Spotify! I had my finals this month and these 10 have been there for me as well as some other stuff which have helped me through this stressful month.

A GUIDE TO SURVIVING FINALS.

Wednesday, 11 June 2014

I am probably the last person who should be giving advice on how to study or not to procrastinate, but I think I have successfully survived exams in the past and passed my exams, so I thought of sharing my little tricks to less stress.

MUSIC BLOG: MAY FAVOURITES!

Saturday, 17 May 2014

SO I have decided to board on this new adventure and include a monthly blog about my current favourite music. I am a huge fan of music, and I am always looking for new artists to listen to, and new songs to add to my Spotify playlist and iTunes. So this is my list of 10 songs I am absolutely loving this month.

ANXIETY, STRESS, AND ATTACKS.

Tuesday, 13 May 2014

I have been staring at this empty page for what seems like hours, trying to think how to word this post right. Describing certain feelings and experiences to the point of making them as real as possible for the readers to understand better can sometimes be a bit tough. The situation of a sensitive subject does not help at all. However, since it is Mental Health Awareness week in the UK, I thought of sharing my experience with Anxiety. This is the perfect time since it is also finals time for most students, so anxiety and stress levels around the world are quite high.

HOW AUSTRIA'S CRY FOR EQUALITY WON THEM EUROVISION

Sunday, 11 May 2014

THE finale has finished and the winner has been crowned. Austria has been appointed to host next year's show thanks to Conchita Wurst's brilliant performance of her song, "Rise Like a Phoenix". Good luck Austria, you have huge shoes to fill after the wonderful and spectacular show put up by Denmark.

WHY EUROPEANS WATCH EUROVISION

Friday, 9 May 2014

IT'S that time of year again when there is one common word amongst many homes in Europe: Eurovision. After two semi-finals completed, last minute preparations are underway ahead of tomorrow's grand finale.

FROM EXPERIENCE TO MEMORY

Saturday, 3 May 2014

I find it ironically funny how everything is in itself a memory. The past is just a mere memory, or a collection of memories from experiences lived. Currently, I am finding this minor discovery in my life quite sad. Last summer I signed up for a week of Musical Theatre Masterclasses in London and after months and months of awaiting, it is now just a memory. And I really want to go back.

MADE BY SOCIETY

Sunday, 30 March 2014

THE "no make up selfie" campaign which has had a massive recognition worldwide in the last couple of weeks, has really made me realise a couple of things which I would like to share with you.

First of all, I would like to be clear that I do appreciate this novel idea of uploading a makeup-less selfie, especially for Breast Cancer awareness. It really has been a success and raised millions of pounds, even if at times not to the right charity. I decided to clarify this point because of the following post, which includes just my opinions, nothing more.

INTRODUCING ME

Sunday, 23 March 2014

HELLO. So my name is Maria and I am an 18-year-old girl from a teeny tiny island called Malta. I am currently in my first year at University reading for a Bachelor of Communications with English degree. I am also a part-time Sales Assistant at Zara, a job which I love and enjoy.

I decided to start this blog a few months ago, I've always wanted one, and I finally got round to writing my first post. Let's just say that I am a pro procrastinator as well. I hope to write here regularly on things which would be on my mind and current issues, possible rants and other everyday things. I don't won't to categorise this blog because I want to see where this will grow into. I just want a free space where I can share my writing and thoughts.

I love watching a bunch of series and I am a total fangirl. I love love reading and trying to be sociable. Guess this is where I tell you how much I love music and singing and how I aspire to have that as my full time job one day. In the mean time this is my life, and I hope you enjoy this blog.

This is it for now, be on the lookout for more posts.

Thanks for reading,
Maria x
